Nocturnal Fantasy
Bodies for Rent Theatre Companie's debut play was Nocturnal Fantasy. It is a devised piece with seven devisers; four actors, two directors and one designer. The theme is the boundaries between spirituality and materiality in people’s daily life. We are exploring this theme with a variety of theatrical elements, such as space, props, music, and text. Unlike traditional plays, the text won’t be the core element of the show. Instead, we use devising and improvisation skills to integrate these theatrical elements.
The play is about a party hosted by a young lawyer, Max. It takes place in his one-bedroom flat where several friends join this party. Based on their emotions at the party, the set changes into several places and shifts into their dream worlds.
Via the narrative of different imaginative spaces, the story highlights some of the problems that people face in modern society, such as broken families, professional failure, identity anxieties, and personal development.
